I Love Rock’n’Roll | Makeup Review

I
have always been a fan of the Rock’n’Roll style: printed t-shirts,
black ripped jeans, grungy hair and an edgy, interesting makeup look. As
the years went by, my personal style has become more delicate and
sophisticated, and yet there is always a soft spot in my heart for
anything that is a little out of the box, especially when it comes to
makeup.

While
black and glitter are colors I feel good wearing, for others it may be a
little tricky integrating these colors in their everyday routine. To
make things easier, I have divided the products into three different
levels of edge, so that you can add some Rock’n’Roll style to your look,
even it is way out of your comfort zone.

For beginners: Rock’n’Roll on your nails. The easiest way to add some edge to any look is with rich, dark, nail polish. Le Chateau
by Orly is a deep green, so deep that it looks almost black. It has a
creamy finish and goes applies smoothly. It is equipped with a thin,
long brush, and though I prefer shorter, denser brushes, I find this one
to be comfortable to use. The nail polishes by Orly are 3-free, that is
they do not contain DBP, Tolunen and Formaldehyde are cruelty free. 18
ml | 35 NIS.
Want to take it up a notch? Try applying a glitter polish over the dark base. This immediately gives nails a festive look you can’t ignore. I used Champange for Breakfast by
OPI, from the ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ collection. While I find most of
the colors in the collection rather standard, this glitter polish is
rich, easy to apply and smooth, but the price Israel is still an issue
for me. 15 ml | 65 NIS.
For those who are ready to amp it up: eyes that Rock. A dramatic eye look is an excellent choice for those of you who feel comfortable with some noticeable edge. Vamp! Compact Duo by
Pupa in the color Rock Violet 011, drew my attention and not only
because of its name. The left, purple color with the imprint in it, is
buttery, pigmented and has a slight duo-chrome shift to it.
Unfortunately, the other color in the pan did not impress me. The eye
shadows are suited for dry or wet usage, and you can imagine what a
little bit of fix+ adds to the party. Try adding it to a black smokey
eye, for a stunning effect. 2.2 grams | 59 NIS throughout December, 129
NIS after that.

For those who live and breath Rock’n’Roll: Lips to die for. If
you have read this far, you are probably one of us who is not afraid to
try new things, even if these might seem a little too much for others.
As usual, MAC has once again created exciting new makeup products that
cannot be ignored. Set to Stun is a lipgloss from the ‘Star
Treck’ collection, that emphasizes everything glittery, unique and
different. I’m not a big gloss fan, and yet I found this one to be
interesting on the lips, giving a strong sparkle, noticeable with every
little move. 4.8 grams | 101 NIS, at MAC stores and online.
Stallion is
a black (!) lipstick from the hyped Liptensity collection, and after
trying it out for a while, I can definitely say it is a great formula.
It is different to all the other MAC lipsticks I own. It is creamy,
rich, pigmented, comfortable on the lips and long lasting. As black
lipstick in a cream formula isn’t easy to wear, I would recommend
starting with a black, long lasting eye pencil as a lip liner before
applying the lipstick. Food and drinks are out of the question, but the
attention you’ll get is worth the hassle. 3.6 grams | 115 NIS, in MAC
stores and online.
